Will's signature coffee ring, like a caffeinated ouroboros

Will Hindmarch

Writer, designer, producer, and worrier-poet. I make things like games, books, events, and playable worlds. Won some awards, even.

Writer, Designer

I'm a prose and play writer with an emphasis on games and fiction. I write everything from video-game "barks" to screenplays and lore. I love roleplaying games.

Design, here, means everything from graphic design to game design. I layout books, ebooks, and zines. I design business cards, pins, and books.

Along with the sterling Jeff Tidball, I co-founded Gameplaywright to publish books about games, storytelling, and creative work.

I also do occasional podcasting and voice work. Here's an album of adventures hooks and storyseeds: Hookseed.

Outside of my indie projects, my clients include Wizards of the Coast, Critical Role's Darrington Press, Field Notes, Twogether Studios, Relic Entertainment, Fantasy Flight Games, Green Ronin, Pelgrane Press, and many more.

When I can, I spearhead production on Level Eater Adventures. We raise funds for nonprofits like the Public Media Institute in Chicago by producing events powered by tabletop roleplaying games.

Till the Last Gasp

My newest game, Till the Last Gasp, casts players in an epic, dramatic, narrative duel. It draws steel and goes for the heart. Features additional game design by Alex Roberts (For the Queen). Published by Darrington Press.

Worldbuilding

As part of my work, I host seminars and workshops focused on worldbuilding for games, fiction, and beyond.

Click the button to get my free educational zine (PDF) with lots of great worldbuilding content. I made this as a fan, to celebrate something I admire but did not make myself: Townscaper. The zine is called Folk of the Sea Steads.

Rites of the Golden Idol

As a way to write about tabletop roleplaying games — and to celebrate one of my favorite movies — I wrote this zine for friends. It's a playable adventure and a zine about how our expectations for play have to be adaptable, because things seldom go how you imagined ... or how they went in your inspiration.
